A Serious Piece of Journalism... (Uganda IV)

While I was looking for the link to “Christmas in Kampala” I came across a seriously good piece of journalism from “The Ugandan Record”, one of Uganda’s leading (and clearly most daring) newspapers…

First Rainy Christmas In Kampala In Decades

Christmas Day, 2009 in Kampala, the Ugandan capital city, started at 6:06am with a light shower of rain, the first time in living memory that it has rained on or around Christmas.

By 6:36am, 30 minutes later, the rainfall had increased. At 7:21am, heavy rain was also being reported in Entebbe town 34km from Kampala.

After a lull of a few hours, the rain, much heavier than in the early morning, resumed at 12:18pm over Kampala and Entebbe.

In Mbarara town, 250km southwest of Kampala, rain was also reported on Christmas Day.

Central Uganda is usually hot and dry in December and January and proof of how much the world climatic patterns are starting to change.

On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, Kampala and Entebbe were cold and grey from dawn to dusk, something almost unheard of at this time of year.
