Witch Regulations for High-Fliers

The attentive blog reader will know that in Africa

a) Many people believe in witchcraft
b) Distances between places are vast

Being not only attentive, but also very sharp, blog readers will immediately spot the opportunity that presents itself here for some privileged people: If you want to visit your witch-relatives in a far away village, you can use your magic broomstick to get their quicker and avoid traffic.

In light of limited enforcement mechanisms, speed limits for broomsticks have not yet been widely implemented in Africa. However, to ensure that witches and commercial airplanes do not crash, Swaziland’s Civil Aviation Authority has just introduced new regulations according to which witches must fly below 150m. Any witch found flying above the limit will be subject to arrest and a fine of R500.000 or 15 times the average Swazi annual income.

I am heading to Swaziland this weekend and shall watch out for police officers staring in the skies making sure that witches stick to the new altitude limit…
