More Clashes of the Cultures

The other night, I went out for dinner and got chatting to the waitress. It turned out that she had just returned to South Africa after spending eight years near my hometown in Germany. What a small world…

After bringing us the food, she came round to our table and asked:

Waitress: “Seid Ihr zufrieden“ (Are you content?)

Me: “Ja, alles wunderbar!” (Yes, all’s great!)

Interestingly, when she asked the people on the table next to us a couple of minutes later, she said:

Waitress: “Are you happy?” (Sind Sie glücklich?)

Man: “Yes, all good.” (Ja, alles ist gut.)

I wonder what that says about Germans and English people…
